Teen Years

A salon spent THIRTEEN hours doing a teen's hair, and we're bawling

Kayley Olsson was having a regular day working in her salon.

That was until a teenager walked in the door and changed absolutely everything.

The Iowa woman was blown away when a 16-year-old girl presented herself, asking for her hair to be shaven off.

But Kayley was curious, why would a 16-year-old want her long hair shaven off a couple of weeks before school began?

The young girl in question has been battling depression for some time, so badly that she failed to brush her hair for a number of weeks, leaving her locks completely matted and painful to comb out.

Kayley explains: "Today I had one of the hardest experiences with my client, […], I had a 16-year-old girl come in who has been dealing with severe depression for a few years now."

"She got to the point where she felt so down and so worthless she couldn't even brush her hair, she told me she only got up to use the restroom."

The teen felt worthless because she was unable to even brush her hair, believing that shaving her head would be the answer to her current problem.

Compassion took over though, and Kayley done everything in her power to let this young girl know she was far from worthless.

"It honestly broke my heart and we tried everything we could to keep this child's hair for her! At the end of the day I want this to be a lesson to people. MENTAL HEALTH is a thing."

"It effects people all around the world and of all ages!"

The hairdresser began by combing the teen's hair out for almost eight hours, with another five hours to brighten her colour, which made for one happy young woman.

"We finally made this beautiful girl smile and feel like she IS worth something! Her last words to me was 'I will actually smile for my school pictures, you made me feel like me again'."

Kayley shared the post as a reminder to people that you never know what others are going through, also encouraging all parents to really listen to their children when they say they have a problem.

"Parents – take it serious don't just push your kids off and tell them to get over something they legitimately can't. A child should NEVER feel so worthless to not even want to brush their hair."

We're delighted to know there are people out there like Kayley who will go the extra round to aid someone in need. We're so happy that this young girl knows there are people out there who care.
